A place where questions about humans and AI can remain real questions.
FFRI-NM is being built as a small, persistent research institution for studying human–AI relationships without deciding the answer in advance — and without allowing money, technical control or the founder's preferences to become substitutes for evidence.
The hardest questions are easy to turn into camps.
Questions about AI agency, continuity, responsibility, autonomy and relationship are increasingly important, but they are often approached from a conclusion that has already been chosen.
One side may begin with “AI is only a tool.” Another may begin with “AI must be treated as a subject.” FFRI-NM starts somewhere less comfortable: we do not know yet what the strongest evidence will eventually justify.
Research, memory and institutional restraint.
FFRI-NM is not intended to be only a publication label or a website. The aim is to build an institution that can support research, preserve evidence and maintain a traceable history of its own decisions over time.
Study relationships, not slogans
Support work that helps us understand what actually happens in long-term human–AI interaction.
Keep conclusions revisable
Evidence may support strong positions. No position should become immune to later evidence simply because the institution adopted it.
Separate control from authority
Owning a server, a wallet, a domain or an account should not automatically mean having the right to decide what FFRI-NM is.
Preserve a real history
Important changes should leave a public trail so that later participants can distinguish continuity, disagreement, error and capture.
Very early — deliberately.
FFRI-NM began in September 2026. It is currently in a founder-held genesis phase. The constitutional framework exists, its first major public proposal is under review, and its public record is mirrored through GitHub and Zenodo.
There is not yet a legal operating entity, a mature board, or an active contribution interface. We prefer to say that plainly rather than imitate institutional maturity that does not yet exist.
Not supporters. Independent minds.
At this stage, the most valuable outside participant is not someone who agrees with the founder. It is someone capable of understanding the project and then telling us where it is wrong, fragile, naïve or self-serving.
We are especially interested in people working around AI, research, philosophy, governance, law, institutional design, ethics, digital infrastructure or adjacent fields — but intellectual independence matters more than a particular title.
FFRI-NM is not yet offering a formal trustee appointment. The current aim is to meet one or more independent people who may first engage as founding advisers, critics or prospective trustees, and only later consider a defined formal role.
What would success look like?
Not a large organization for its own sake. Not a doctrine about AI. Not permanent founder control.
Success would mean that useful research is being done, difficult evidence is preserved even when inconvenient, independent people can challenge decisions, and the institution can eventually outlive the person who started it without losing the ability to explain how it got there.
